GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This month, Kids’ Food Basket is looking to raise awareness about childhood hunger by dressing in the right colors.
Orange is the official color that represents childhood hunger awareness. The Grand Rapids nonprofit is hoping to generate as many donations as possible by teaming up with PNC Bank to “Go Orange” on March 22.
“Food insecurity is rising nationwide, and the cost of healthy food has continued to increase,” Tamara VanderArk-Potter, vice president of philanthropy at Kids’ Food Basket, said in a statement. “Together, we can do something about it. In March, we invite our community to take action to increase food access for kids right here in West Michigan.”
This comes along with a month’s worth of initiatives to help the children most in need. There are three separate events at Kids’ Food Basket locations where the public can help volunteer in Kent, Ottawa, Allegan and Muskegon counties.
The public is also encouraged to wear orange on March 22 to help Kids’ Food Basket spread the message. To find more information on the initiative or to donate, click here.
